  1. Is Freetimesheet.com really free?

Yes. Freetimesheet.com is a portal site for the feature limited version of Journyx Timesheet hosted and provided for free. Journyx is able to offer this service at no charge because our revenues come from purchases made by groups tracking more than 5 users (10 users if hosted on the client's server) and by businesses that purchase our service for their own portal sites.

In our opinion, offering the Freetimesheet.com service for small groups for free is a win/win endeavor. Smaller companies and individuals get a valuable service in exchange for helping us gain first hand experience with managing the time tracking needs of thousands of individuals, daily, and the ability to provide a live example of outsourced administration of a timesheet application.

Rest assured, Freetimesheet.com will remain free for groups of up to 5 users (10 if members signed up before November 1, 1999).

Please visit the home of the Journyx Timesheet products, if you are interested in a full-featured version of Journyx Timesheet as an ASP for larger groups or on your own installation.

  2. How do I set up my group of 5 users?

The first individual in each group becomes the manager of that group. S/he determines the name of the group, and is capable of managing the passwords, creation of projects, as well as other group administrative functions. Each additional member to this group will have User status, limiting their ability to affect group timesheet attributes.

For each additional group member, fill out the member creation form. On the last form, you will be prompted for an email address, username, and a group name. In the group name field, enter the ALREADY CREATED group name, and click 'Add to existing group.'

  3. I absolutely cannot figure out how to login, or I forgot my password...

If you are logging on for the first time, your username AND Password are the same. They are case sensitive. If you are still having problems, please email us.

If you have used freetimesheet in the past but have forgotten your password, email freetimeasp@journyx.com.

  4. How do I find all of the Time/Expense Records that meet certain criteria, and change them?

Again, this is a function that only a Manager can perform. It is useful when an incorrect timesheet or expense entry goes unnoticed until it has been committed. From the Admin menu select Global Modification and Deletion of Time/Expense Records. From this screen, you can search for Time/Expense Records that meet as many or as few criteria as you want. The program will return all Time/Expense Records that meet these criteria. At this point, you can select and commit, uncommit, modify, or delete any of these.

  5. Can I create an icon for Freetimesheet.com on my desktop?

This Icon will function in every way like any other shortcut Icon. It could be placed in the start-up menu to launch Freetimesheet.com every time the system boots, or it can simply be placed on the desktop as a reminder to the end user to log her/his timesheet information.

Login as whomever. Open Freetimesheet.com in your web browser. Go to the User Preferences screen. (This is important because it resets the web extensions.)

Go to the Time Entry screen. Look at the address in the address bar. It should look something like http://yourcompanyname.com/cgi-bin/wte.pyc The "wte.pyc" is very important. If the end of your address reads "wtlogin.pyc", then you skipped step 2 and should go to the User Preferences screen. Highlight the entire address. Copy this address (Control-C) into the windows clipboard.

Minimize your browser. Right-Click on your WindowsTM wallpaper. You should get a menu of choices. Scroll down that menu to "NEW", and on the sub-menu that pops up select "Shortcut". A new window will pop up on your screen after just a second. There should be a single entry box on this window titled "Command line:".

Left-click on that box and Paste your address from the clipboard. You can Paste in several ways. You can use the shortcut keys (Control-V) or you could Right-Click in the box and select "Paste" from the pop-up menu. Hit the "Next" button.

In the box labeled "Select a name for the shortcut" select and delete the name "New Internet Shortcut". Type an appropriate name in this box. We recommend no more than 3 words. Remember that every user will have this name on his/her desktop. Here are a few suggestions:

    • Log Your Time
    • My Timesheet
    • On-Line Timesheet
    Hit the "Finish" button.

(Optional) Right-click on the new shortcut on your desktop. From the pop-up menu, select "Properties". In the bottom-right of the new window, select the button "Change Icon". You will be able to browse and find a new Icon for this item.

Right-click on the new shortcut you have created, and select "copy" from the pop-up menu. Go into your e-mail program and open a new message. In the body of the message, Right-click and select "Paste" from the pop-up menu.

Include a note that users can copy this Icon to their desktop and it will connect them to the login page. Immediately after they enter their name and password, they will be taken to their own timesheet. Send the message to everyone whom you would like to have the Icon. Having the Icon, or not having the Icon will not effect the performance of Freetimesheet.com. This is simply a convenience feature.

  6. On Freetimesheet.com, how does one perform System Administrator functions? Can I change the code descriptions, layout, etc.?

Freetimesheet.com runs a feature-limited version of Journyx Timesheet that does not allow administrator functions. Codes cannot be changed. Time entry screens can be chosen from the 5 standard forms in "Preferences."

If you require more features, we encourage you to download a free fully-functional version of Journyx Timesheet (for up to 10 users) at http://www.journyx.com/products/timesheet.
